Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at the judicial center on recently

A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the location in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, for good reason.

"They decided to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC stated objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were discovered, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated Ruben went on to engage in the "candy game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not gone out by that stage," she added.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement again.

She explained the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
